The Law Offices of David Scott Thompson

Specializing in Business Litigation, Employment Law, Personal Injury, and Workers' Compensation

Because the lawyer/client relationship is so important, it is important that you get to know about me before we consider a relationship working together on your claim.

I am a native Virginian, but then proceeded to move around the country, with stops in Cincinnati, Austin & Dallas.  I attended the University of Virginia, graduating from the prestigious McIntre School of Commerce with Distinction.  After being inspired by a Commercial Law Class, I was then accepted into the Emory University School of Law right here in Atlanta.  I've now lived in Atlanta for over nine years, which by most standards in this city qualifies me as a local.

I spent the first four years out of school working for a boutique defense law firm, specializing in employment law, premises liability and toxc torts, specifically defending several large pest control companies and asbestos manufacturers.  I also became the firm's workers' compensation specialist.  I then took that expertise and began working for the most prestigious workers' compensation law firm in the state, handling all manner of work injuries, including numerous catastrophic claims, and claims appealed all the way from the Appellate Division of the State Board all the way to the Court of Appeals.

While those two experiences provided me with an invaluable education, I realized that my heart was not into helping faceless insurance companies, and that I could use my skills to help injured Georgians.  That work experience educated me on the tricks and techniques that insurance companies use to lower the value of the claim, and armed with that information, I can ensure you reach a maximum settlement.

My personality is an asset to my practice in that I am extremely organized, creative, an a classic Type A hard worker.  When I went out on my own, friends and family had no doubt that I would quickly become successful armed with these tools, and thus far they have been correct.  I use these traits combined with my extensive knowledge of the law to best serve you.

I have also been told by clients that I am very good at explaining to them how the Court system works.  In both the regular State and Superior Courts, and especially in the very specialized workers' compensation system, there are particular patterns and time periods in which litigation occurs.  One of the biggest complaints I hear from clients is the fact that they do not feel they are getting benefits fast enough: I am able to advise them that this is normal, and that by being patient and doing a full investigation into the claim, in the long run the client will ultimately do better than trying to settle quickly for a much smaller amount.

I have also heard from several people that they are hesitant to hire an attorney for several reasons.  First, is that they do not want to 'play' the system for a payoff they are not entitled to.  However remember that the Court system was built to make you whole after an injury, whether it be to your person or property, or whether it be at work or in your leisure time.  Second, they are concerned that they will end up worse off after having to pay my fees.  However I am brutally honest in telling you whether it would be more beneficial to hire me, or if I think you will ultimately end up better on your own.

Do not hesitate to contact me if you think I may be of assistance!
